Market Acceptable $475 New March 10! Lapped Dies, Frosted Luster, Peripheral Gold, Gerry Fortin Reference Collection. Another reference collection release, this 1853-O F-105 can be identified by a weakly hubbed thin date with very open 5 digit along. The weakness of the reverse legend suggests die polishing, through the Large O mintmark and wreath are strongly detailed with an obvious die clash behind DI(ME). A horizontal die crack appears at the rim above ST(A)TES and connects STAT(ES) before exiting to the rim above O(F). A small rim cud forms at the die crack exit point. The F-105 variety with its cracked reverse is scarce and will take diligent searching to locate. This example was purchased March 2002 and published within the Liberty Seated Dime web-book and yet another plate coin. The Market Acceptable rating results from horizontal obverse hairlines meaning this piece will not straight grade. Priced accordingly.
