 Gem $5500 New April 12! Exceptional Super Gem, Emerald Collection. From 1879 through 1890, the Philadelphia Mint produced few circulation strikes as the Treasury Department distributed huge quantities of older quarters that had been hoarded during the Civil War and Reconstruction eras. The 1879 issue was limited to just 13,600 pieces. This newly released Emerald Collection specimen is one of the finest survivors available today. Both sides are vividly toned with the obverse overlaid with blended steel-olive, cobalt blue and champagne-pink iridescence. On the reverse, exquisite target toning is noted in shades of champagne-pink, antique gold, steel-blue, salmon-pink and silver-apricot. This is a sharply lustrous specimen with partially mirrored radiance throughout with essentially unabraded surfaces that are just a few wispy marks away from an even higher grade.
