Choice $685 New September 7! Impressive Ahwash, Lovejoy, Fortin Pedigree, Crusty Gray-Gold Patina, Iridescent Peripheral Luster, Copper Harbor Collection. What a notable pedigree for this choice original 1868 F-106a Liberty Seated dime! This piece was owned and sold by Kam Ahwash to Allen Lovejoy on August 15, 1977 and remained in Lovejoy's collection until the Stack's October 1990 sale of Lovejoy's entire U.S. dime collection. After the late 1990 sale, this 1868 dime subsequently appeared in an April 1992 Coin Galleries Sale and went into the Gerry Fortin reference collection until being released during late 2018. Originally catalogged as Brilliant Circulated by Stack's and described as "Pale gray and blue colors. Iridescent peripheries". Indeed under a bright light, the obverse is toned a crusty pale gray with golden borders while the reverse is a combination of aquamarine, gray and blue shades. This piece is well struck and presently the F-106a plate coin at The Definitive Resource for Liberty Seated Dime Variety Collectors online reference. Housed in a PCGS Gen 6.0 (2015-2020) holder. An important offering from the Gerry Fortin Referene Collection that is worth the asking price due to low PCGS populations in the AU and lower mint state grades. The original Fortin cardboard 2x2, which documents the pedigree, will be included with the purchase.
