Original $1350 New January 5! Rim Cuds at 10:00 and 4:00, Very Rare Die State, Web-Book Plate Coin, Gerry Fortin Reference Collection. 1842 F-103b is the R7 die state whereby two obverse cuds at found at 11:00 and 4:00. The single 1842 cud obverse die state (F-103a) is listed in the Top 100 Variety set and available with some searching. The double obverse cud F-103b die state was mentioned by Greer as existing and being rare. I subsequently located an example at the ANR November 30, 2004 Frog Run Sale and was added to the Seated dime die variety online reference after its August 2004 release. This plate coin is one of the few F-103b examples known as I have only seen two examples of the doubled cud obverse die state outside of the plate coin, both are listed in the GFRC Sales Archive with the finest graded PCGS MS64+ CAC. A near choice example with some left obverse rim chatter precluding a full Choice quality rating. When pursuing an R7 die state, one can't be too stringent on perfection. I've thoroughly enjoyed owning this example. It ships in a 2x2 cardboard holder with Fortin notes.
