Comments: Ahwash lists two die pairs for the Medium O mintmark, however only one die pair has been seen after years of searching. All Philadelphia and New Orleans 1857 dimes come with a date punch defect under the flag of the 1 digit in the date. This anomaly is occasionally listed as a repunched date. Variety 101, the doubled date, still raises questions as to its origin. Experts have listed this variety's origin as either strike doubling or repunching. Strike doubling is now the established conclusion. During December 2009, Dale Miller identified a second reverse die paired with the strike doubled obverse die. This dicovery is listed as F-102a.
