Comments: Obverse 16 presents an atypical misplaced digit in the seated dime series. The "shadow" of the top half of the 9 digit is clearly visible behind shield lines 5 and 6. I first noticed that there was something different in the lower shield after cropping the date position illustration. The white shadow in the lower shield had a distinct shape and a quick comparison with the date punch immediately revealed it to be the top loop of the 9 digit. There is another shadow about the misplaced 9 digit. This shadow could be the flag of a 1 digit but there is not enough detail on the plate coin to draw a conclusion. The flag on the second 1 digit is partial or broken. Chris Pilliod first identified the partial flag on the 1 digit.
