Variety 102
Obverse 2: Proof Die, High Date, Slight Downward Slope
Reverse B: Proof Die
Obverse 2 Reverse B
Comments: Walter Breen, in his 1988 Encyclopedia, estimates that 14-18 proof 1846 dimes are extant. On the second 1846 obverse, used to strike this limited proof coinage, the date slopes downward. In addition, the 4 digit is filled and die chips are visible around all stars. On Obverse 2, Liberty's fingers on the right hand are extremely well defined versus Obverse 1.
