Comments: Obverse 1 shows die lines between the rim and Stars 9 through 12. Die chips are seen around Stars 3 through 6.
Obverse 1 is paired with a left over reverse die from 1847. Reverse A of 1847 can be diagnosed by examining the flash pattern around the bow knot. During its use in 1848, Reverse A shows a die crack at STA(TES) and another vertical crack through the end of the left wreath stem.
