Comments: Both the obverse and reverse dies show a considerable amount of die cracks during a later die state. Obverse 2 exhibits a die crack through (STATES) and into Liberty's head. Another die crack starts below the previous on Liberty's head and proceeds through the cap and into (OF). Another die crack is visible above the top of the shield. This crack is unconventional for a With Legend obverse die. See the enhanced mapping above.

On the reverse die, a large die crack begins at the rim at 2:30, moves downward through the corn husk and outer oak leaf and exits to the rim at 4:00. The reverse die appears to close to shattering and could potentially have produced incremental coinage with a large retained cud.

Plate Coin: G. Fortin Collection, PCGS MS64
