Variety 105b

Obverse 2.3: Pie Shaped Shattered Obverse, Vertical Crack Die State

Reverse E: Perfect Die, Normal Reverse Alignment

Obverse 2.3                                              Reverse E

Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: This variety is the middle die state for Obverse 2. Obverse 2 continues to degrade and eventually results in the extremely rare Pie Shattered Obverse die state. During the middle die state, the obverse die shows a die crack starting at the rim and moving upward in between the 18 digits in the date and then through the right shield, Liberty's midsection and ending at her shoulder clasp. Stars 8 is boldly repunched and Star 10 to a lesser extent. Significant radial die lines behind Liberty's lower gown are present. There is slight repunching at the base of the 3 digit.

Reverse E is a perfect die with no diagnostics. Normal die alignment is observed for Obverse 2.3 and Reverse E die pairing. This is an extremely rare middle die state variety and is always in demand due to the lack of availability of Pie Shaped Shattered obverse examples.
