Comments: Reverse B is always found weak at the denomination and at the lower inner left and right leaves. Reverse B was previously used by the San Francisco mint to strike coinage in 1869 and in 1870. Compare the Small Weak S mintmark position on 1871-S Reverse B with the mintmark placements on 1869-S Reverse B and 1870-S Reverse A. Before re-use in 1871, Reverse B appears to have been polished or lapped.
