Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: The bottom of an 8 punch is visible in the denticles directly below the mid point between the two 8's in the date. The reverse scan is not shown above, as the plate coin is a love token. This MPD variety was first listed in Kevin Flynn's "Two Dates Are Better Than One" book highlighting MPD across all U.S. coinage. Listed as MPD-003, this variety was believed to be the top of an 8 in the denticles. Closer examination by the author leads to the conclusion that the digit in the denticles is the bottom of an extra 8 punch. Please examine the macro photograph above and note the upward curvature of the misplaced digit.
