Obverse 16: Repunched 18, High Level Date

Reverse P: Irregular Letters in DIME

Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Reverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: Repunching above the 18 digits is primary diagnostic for Obverse 16. As with nearly all 1887 obverse dies, the date is positioned high and level due to size of date punch. Tim Cook first identified the repunched date in 2011 and provided the discovery coin to author for inclusion in the web-book.

Reverse P appears to have been poorly hubbed with the denomination being especially weak. Note the irregular appearance of the letters in DIME and the partial left foot for DI(M)E.
