Comments: Obverse 4 appears to have been polished. The strength of the letters in UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is considerably less than on Variety 106. All traces of doubling in the legend have been eliminated. Reverse E exhibits a Small S mintmark that is still measured as being positioned left and high. However this mintmark is more horizontally centered and lower than the Small S mintmarks on either Reverses B or C.

During September 2005, James Smith provided an 1889-S dime for inspection. Jim felt that the mintmark appeared to be repunched east. After very close examination of the 1889-S dime submitted by Jim, I believe that coin to be the F-107 die pair. The suggestion that the Small S mintmark is repunched east does appear to be substantiated by the following photographs.

I would appreciate other submissions of the F-107 variety that would verify the existence of a repunched Small S mintmark.
