Scarcity: Both the Large and Small Date 1837 dimes are common in all grades.  The Small Date variety is slightly more
difficult to locate than the Large Date.

Comments: 1837 dimes are always available but carry a premium due to type status.  They are usually well struck but can 
exhibit weakness in the horizontal shield lines.  Most 1837 dimes are seen with a rotated reverse die aligned to the 
left by 23 degrees.  Use a normal die alignment as a diagnostic point to locate examples of Variety 102.  Be aware of 
Obverse 3 Small Date dimes being attributed as Large Dates in the holders of professional grading services.
