1837
Variety 101
Obverse 1: Proof Die, Large Date
Reverse A: Proof Die, Die Scratch Between Rim and S(T)ATES

Obverse 1.2 Reverse A.2
Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: The date placement on this 1837 proof coin is identical to that on the Large Date business strikes. The identical date placements and the lack of stars on the obverse for additional diagnostics, force me to assume that proofs were struck from the same obverse die that was used for business strikes. What remains unexplained is the repunching on the base of the 7 digit on business strike examples but no traces of repunching on proof coins. Reverse die has diagonal die line through top of E and middle of S in STATES. The die line ends at (O)F. There is a die scratch between rim and S(T)ATES.
