Comments: 1840 No Drapery dimes are typically well struck. Several reverse dies show weakness at (ON)E. Except for Variety 103, the Chin Whiskers obverse, there are no significant die varieties for this date. Obverse 4 does show a important shattered obverse that is rarely seen. With a mintage of 981,500 and eight known dies, the average mintage per die (122,687) is significantly below that of 1838 (249,063) and 1839 (263,278).
