Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: This is a late Obverse 4 die state that exhibits severe die cracks. The pie shaped die cracks are similar to later die states of 1837 Large Date Obverse 1. The first die crack starts at lower right rim below base and proceeds along the edge of the 1 digit and up into lower shield. A second die crack is seen from LIB(E)RTY in scroll to Liberty's draped hair. Completing the pie, a third die crack is seen from rim, through the foot and along right leg and intersecting the second die crack at right top of shield.

Plate Coin: G. Fortin Collection, PCGS AU53
