Comparison between 1842-O Reverse D with later die state 1841-O Reverse E

Comments: Obverse 3 has developed an obvious rim cud from Star 3 to Star 6. A die crack is visible from the rim to Star 4.

Reverse D has also significantly degraded with numerous die cracks from rim through letters of the legend to wreath. Most significant are the die cracks through A(MERICA). This reverse will be again paired with an 1841 obverse (after striking coinage dated 1842) and continues to show worsening metal fatigue. The die crack progression while paired with the 1841 obverse is spectacular. See the above 1842-O Reverse D followed by 1841-O Reverse E comparison.

Plate Coin: G. Fortin Collection, PCGS EF45 CAC Green - Ahwash Plate Coin.
