Comments:  Obverse 1 has been previously identified as Variety I by Ken Hill within his 1978 Gobrecht Journal analysis of 1856 Large Date obverse dies. This obverse exhibits a long curved die line to the right of the pendant which is the misplaced top loop of the 6 digit date punch. The misplaced 6 digit was first identified by the author during 2003 and recently confirmed by Dick Osburn in early 2005. Stars 3 through 6 have die chips.

Reverse A can be identified by a die line bridging the top of (DI)ME.
