Comments: Significant amounts of obverse die detail have been eliminated via polishing or lapping. Most noticeable is the missing details at the date and between the rock and Stars 1 through 3. This die state was initially listed as R5 in VF or better grades. However, enough examples have been seen to warrant a reduction to an R4 rarity estimate. In VF or better grades, I have seen more examples of Variety 103a than the early die state Variety 103.
