Comments: The high mintage for 1891 dimes indicates that many more varieties will be discovered. More repunched
dates are sure to turn up as collectors examine their coins. The Double Die Obverse and the MPD Obverse have
become popular varieties for 1891 dated dimes. Since the reverse dies appear to consistently cracked on the left
side of the wreath, examples with retained die cuds between 9:00 and 12:00 can be found with patient searching.
For the individual variety estimates, I have left most varieties at R2 since it is impossible to attribute the
date positions on every 1891 dime that one encounters. I have provided rarity estimates for the popular varieties
only. Good luck to the next researcher who attempts to expand this analysis.
