Comments: On Variety 134, both obverse and reverse dies are severely clashed with (LIBER)TY from the obverse scroll transferring to the reverse. Obverse 34 exhibits considerable cracking as illustrated above. One must assume that the obverse die was soon retired after the severe clashing event.

The die clashing was thoroughly analyzed by Donald Bennett and Michael Fey using GIMP software. The results produced an excellent article in the April 2010 E-Gobrecht issue. Please access this link for further information.
