Variety 101a

Obverse 1.2: Polished Die, Medium Date, Downward Slope, Open 9

Reverse A.2: Polished Die, Weak Medium S, [mm Lt,H]

Obverse 1.2                                           Reverse A.2

Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)                 Reverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: Both Obverse 1 and Reverse A have been polished removing considerable device details. The misplaced upright of the 1 digit is barely detectable. The 9 digit is very open.

The Medium S mintmark shows only the deepest points of its impression in the reverse die. I believe this die state variety is more common than the earlier die state without the die polishing.
