Reverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: Obverse 8, while exhibiting severse weakness, is paired with a heavily cracked reverse die. Please see the enhanced mapping of the Reverse F.3 die cracks in the above illustration. The origins of this heavily cracked reverse went undefined for decades until an interim die state reverse specimen appeared within GFRC inventory in late 2016. The interim die state of Reverse F, listed as F.2, was discovered on an NGC MS63 example with matching die cracks to those of the above late die state example but much fainter. During the interim die state Reverse F is paired with Obverse 6.

The pairing of Obverse 8 and Reverse F.3 was described in a 1984 issue of the Gobrecht Journal by John McCloskey from a Seated dime made available by Bill Carpenter.
