Obverse Diagnostic Point

Comments: Obverse 1 is the more common of the two obverse dies employed for striking proof 1859 seated dimes. This obverse is easily recognized by an upward sloping date. It is estimated that Obverse 1 proofs are at least 5 times more available than those with the second proof obverse die (Obverse 2).

See Variety 102 for a description of the second proof obverse die.
