Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: Obverse die 6 has been lapped or polished, resulting in the elimination of the die scratches above Liberty's head. This obverse shows overall strike weakness, and it is most noticeable at Stars 1 through 4. I suspect that Greer was referring to this die and die state when he indicated that 1859 dimes are "Often very flatly struck at the head and bow knot. Soft strikes make this date challenging for the fussy collector".
