Comments: 1860 dimes have Type I obverse design which has very "delicate" relief that can wear down quickly. Few if any examples are seen with poor strikes or die cracks. The mintage to die ratio is low (50,580 per die), which could explain the quality of surviving examples. In the individual variety presentation, I will reference the appearance of the bases of the 1 digit as Ahwash presented in his encyclopedia. The bases of the 1 digit will be described as either thick or thin to help with diagnosing the obverse dies. I have not seen a Type II proof 1860 dime and question its existence.
