Obverse 10: Medium Date, Slight Downward Slope, Bases of 1 Thin, Open 6

Reverse J: Perfect Die

Obverse 10                                                Reverse J

Obverse Diagnostic Point

Comments: Obverse 10 exhibits a weak date punch. The bases of the 1 digit are thin and the 6 digit open with the upper ball of the 6 digit is well away from the lower loop. The date is well centered between the base and denticles but has a slight downward slope appearance. There are light clash marks near Liberty's left hand.

Variety 110 was identified during April 2007 by Bill Mackrides. Though his dime had a date punch position similar to Variety 103 (with date position DR 1C), he noted that the 0 digit was well centered between the base and denticles and different from Variety 103. Bill was kind enough to send the dime for inspection and confirmation of the new obverse date position variety.

Since the date positions for Variety 103 and Variety 110 are quite similar and difficult to diagnose, below is a side by side comparisons of the respective date punch images.
