Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)                  Reverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: Obverse 3 presents a high date with a slight upward slope. There is no repunching on this date. The plate coin has a mark on the flag of the 5 digit that could be misinterpreted as repunching. Reverse C is labeled as the Reverse of 1866 (A) as this reverse die will see more extensive usage in 1866 than for 1865 San Francisco coinage.

Variety 105 is considered to be rare in the lower circulated grades with a suggested rarity of R5+. In problem free VF or better, this variety is most likely an R6+ rarity. The low circulated grade of the plate coin clearly indicates the difficulty in finding a higher grade specimen.

Plate Coin: G. Fortin Collection, PCGS VG10 - Greer Variety Plate Coin
