Reverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: Obverse 8 has a date punch position that is nearly identical to Obverse 7. Both dies have a Denticle Ruler measurement of DR 0R and a medium level date with respect to the base. However, on Obverse 8, the left foot of the 1 digit is closer to the "0" denticle than on Obverse 7. On higher grade specimens, die variety specialists can check the die lines differences between the two obverse dies. Obverse 8 exhibits faint die lines in the lower shield and gown. Finally, Obverse 7 has the filled die region below Liberty's chin and the sole chin whisker. Therefore, there are enough diagnostic differences between the two obverses to reliably separated them with careful study.

Closed 3 Obverse 8                                  Closed 3 Obverse 7

Reverse G, is paired with Closed 3 Obverse 8. Reverse G was previously matched with an Open 3 obverse die. During that initial die pairing, this reverse die is labeled as Reverse B with Open 3 Obverse 1. Upon the subsequent pairing with Closed 3 Obverse 8 die, Reverse G is degraded and exhibits long circular die cracks throughout the wreath elements.
