Comments: Variety 104 (Obverse 3) can be easily confused with Variety 102 (Obverse 1.2) due to a similar date position and mintmark location. The Denticle Ruler should be used as the primary diagnostic tool for 1884-S dimes. Careful attention to the date placement as referenced to the "0" denticle will allow Variety 104 to be separated from Variety 102. Also check the differences in date slope between Varieties 104 and 102 as a confirmation diagnostic.
