Comments: Both the obverse and reverse dies are clashed. Obverse 17 exhibits a slightly downward sloping date and an open 9 digit. There is a die crack from the foot up through AMERI(CA) and to the rim.

The plate coin is well struck with completely defined head and hair curls along with all wreath devices being crisp. This type of strike is atypical for the 1889 date as most will be seen with strike weakness at head and upper left wreath details.

Plate Coin: G. Fortin Collection, NGC MS63 CAC
