Description

1845-O
F-101c

A Large Thick O reverse with RRDM measured at approximately 25 degrees left. Other occurrences with 10-15 degrees of RRDM are known.
1849-O
F-101a

The Large O reverse die is rotated left by 52 degrees. No die cracks are evident on the rotated reverse die therefore suggesting that improper die alignment occurred early during the die pairing. This is a rare variety that should bring a strong premium.
F-101ab

The Large O reverse die is rotated left by 34 degrees. No die cracks are evident on the rotated reverse die therefore suggesting that improper die alignment occurred early during the die pairing. This also is a rare variety/die state that should bring a strong premium.
F-103b

Ultimate Varieties

This Small O variety has a reverse rotation of about 85 degrees left and is not as rare as F-101a.
F-104a

The Small O reverse is rotated left by 48 degrees. Evidence suggests that the misalignment between the obverse and the reverse dies occurred early during the pairing of Obverse 3 and Reverse B. The repunching on 1 and 8 digits is obvious on the plate coin.
1850-O
F-105a

Large O reverse is rotated left by approximately 45 degrees with several high grade examples being known. It should not be surprising to find an 1850 New Orleans dime with a rotated reverse considering that three of the four 1849-O die pairings were struck with RRDM. Given this 1850-O finding, a systematic die alignment problem that plagued the New Orleans mint in 1849 may have extended into early 1850.
1853 Unhubbed Date and Arrows
F-104a

A reverse die paired with unhubbed date and arrows obverse die is rotated 45 degrees to the right.
1853 Hubbed Date and Arrows
F-115

A reverse die paired with hubbed date and arrows obverse die is rotated right by 32 degrees and shows no unique diagnostics.
1854 With Arrows
F-105

An 1854 With Arrows reverse suffers RRMD and is rotated left 65 degrees. Obverse 5 shows initial die cracking at the base of the digits in the date and a die crack up through the left arrow to the base and then through Stars 1 to 3.
1854-O With Arrows
F-103a

A Large Oblique O reverse die was identified with RRDM of 50 degrees right by Jason Feldman during the 2006 ANA convention.
1855 With Arrows
F-105a

Ultimate Varieties

The reverse die is misaligned right by 135 degrees. After years of searching by specialists, few examples of this variety have surfaced.
1858
F-108a

During the summer of 2007, Bill Mackrides located an 1858 dime with RRDM left by 45 degrees and partial planchet error. A second example in F12 grade is also known.
F-108ab

The F-108a 1858 variety is known with a different reverse rotation of 57 degrees left. Currently, this is the only example known. .
