Comments: Obverse 3 can be identified by poorly hubbed date with weak 8 and 5 digits. The 5 digit is very open. There are faint die cracks visible at the bottom of the date digits. This obverse is paired with the left over Reverse A of 1852.

Both Reverse A of 1852 and this reverse die exhibit a Large Thin O mintmark that is centered in the horizontal direction and positioned high. The reverse die is in a late die state with a die defect or rust spot forming between O(NE) and the upper right wreath leaves. Note the weakness in the reverse of the plate coin as compared to the strike on the obverse. The obverse grades a full EF40 while the reverse grades VF20 or slightly better.

Plate Coin: G. Fortin Collection, EF40
