Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)                   Reverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: The lack of inner drapery is the primary diagnostic point for Obverse 4. This obverse has a weakly hubbed date and arrows along with substantial weakness at inner drapery. All 1853 New Orleans dimes were struck with obverse dies that had the date and arrows hubbed as part of overall design. As a result, working die hubbing weakness at the date is common.

Reverse B is rotated left 18 degrees on the plate coin and appears to be in the same die state as the Ahwash plate coin. Ahwash makes no mention of the rotated reverse die alignment. The Large Thin O mintmark is positioned left and high with a small amount of left tilt.

Plate Coin: G. Fortin Collection, ANACS MS62
