Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: Repunching is visible near the lower point of the left arrow. The arrows and date digits are bold and well punched into the obverse die. The denomination on the reverse is well struck.

There are two 1873 With Arrows obverse dies with a repunched left arrow. They are Variety 109 and Variety 118. On both obverse dies, the date and arrows placement is very similar. The repunching is also found on the bottom of the left arrow on both obverse dies. This further complicates the proper attribution of each variety. Carefully examine the position of the left arrow with respect to the flag of the 1 digit on both dies. On this variety (Variety 118), the arrow is punched higherthan on Variety 109.
