1873
With Arrows
Variety 124
Obverse 11: Micro Left Arrow, High Date, Downward Slope, Broken S, Left Arrow DR 0B1
Reverse W: Clashed Die
Obverse 11 Reverse W
Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)
Comments: Both arrows are undersized, with the left arrow being smaller than the right arrow. Remember that unlike the 1853, 1854 and 1855 hubbed arrows and dates, the date and arrows on 1873 obverse dies were manually punched. Manual punching lead to variations in placement and size of the arrows, as is demonstrated by the weakly punched arrows on Obverse 11.
Reverse W is perfect other than die clashing. More research is needed to determine when and how Reverse W was clashing during production of 1873 dime coinage.
