Comments: Reverse C, which featured a Small O mintmark style used in 1839, has further degraded and shows a new die state with two rim cuds at 9:00 and 10:00. Most of the die cracks to the rim, as listed for F-103, are visible on the plate coin, though the dark toning renders their photography difficult.

The F-103 die pairing is rarely encountered by specialists and has been previously listed as R6. For example, the F-106 Medium O variety (R5) is more available than F-103. Liz Coggan of JJ Teaparty discovered the F-103 plate coin with the two reverse die cuds. At this time, a rarity assessment of R7 is considered reasonable for the F-103a die state.
