Variety 112
Obverse 8: Low Date, Sharp Upward Slope, Rusted Die
Reverse F.3: Worn Die, Small O, [mm Rt,H], Die Crack AMER(I)CA

Obverse 8 Reverse F.3
Obverse Diagnostic Point(s) Reverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: Variety 112 results from a subsequent die pairing of Obverse 8 and Reverse F. Both dies exhibit the same primary diagnostics as in their previously defined die states but appear to have incremental wear with Reverse F approaching its end of life.
Obverse 8 remains moderately pitted within Liberty's central body while Reverse F has two sysmetrical die cracks that easily identify the die. The first die crack is from wreath through AMER(I)CA to rim , the second die crack is from wreath to rim below (U)NITED. The Small O mintmark is positioned right and high.
While publishing the web-book in 2004, I designated this variety with R3 rarity. This estimate was understated and after years of study, the rarity is increased to R4 in grades of VF or better due to lack of specimens on the market.
