Scarcity: A common date in grades below VF but becomes scarce in EF-AU. Mint State examples can be found but are
very scarce. This date is more difficult to locate than the 1853 With Arrows or the 1854 With Arrows in any grade.

Comments: Both the date and arrows were placed on the master hub for 1855 dimes resulting in a consistent
positioning of these devices on the obverse die. Variations in date hubbing strength on the working dies
produced strong and weak date transfers. The working die preparation process produced at least three 1855
obverse dies with doubling in the date or shield. 1855 dimes are much more difficult to find sharply struck
than their 1853 or 1854 With Arrows counterparts.
