Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: Several of the 1855 obverse dies exhibit die doubling. On Obverse 3, the die doubling is most evident on the top outer right edge of the shield and is the primary diagnostic. Doubling can also be seen to the right of the upper sections of shield lines 10 and 12. On high grade specimens, additional doubling can also be seen along the right edge of shield lines 2, 4, 6 and 8 in the lower shield area.

The Obverse 3 die has been labeled Doubled Die Obverse #2 and is included in the Top 100 Varieties set. A total of three 1855 obverse dies have been identified with obverse die doubling.
