Comments: The first appearance of Obverse 2, the doubled die obverse, is with a late die state Reverse A. Obverse 2 shows die doubling in multiple locations including the horizontal shield lines, throughout AMERICA and below Liberty's foot. Actually, the easier diagnostic point for Obverse 2 is the long diagonal die scratch in the base and lower gown. This die scratch is clearly visible above the 90 in the date. Even on low grade specimens, this die scratch will allow the identification of Obverse 2. Reverse A is in a slightly later die state than Variety 101a.
