Comments: Obverse 5 is in a later die state with obvious die cracks through the date digits. One die crack starts at the top oval of the 8 digits and proceeds left through top of 1 digit, into the base and the rock where it terminates on the plate coin. A second die crack starts at the rim below the base of 1 digit and proceeds right through the lower loop of 8 digit, the top loop of 9 digit and into the base.

Reverse G exhibits a faint die crack on the left wreath at 9:00 but not significant enough to change the Reverse G die state designation to G.2.

The Variety 108a die state was discovered by Jason Feldman and presented to the author at the 2014 Spring Whitman Baltimore show. Up until that time, the author has not seen this die state on the limited number of Variety 108 Small S examples reviewed. The 108a die state is considered to be very rare and is rated as R7.
