Comments: Locating the misplaced date varieties is the major challenge for the 1890 date. Most obverse
dies comes with a date punch that is heavy (closed 9) and slopes downward. Identifying individual 1890
obverse dies will be a challenging exercise. The large mintage of 9,911,451 suggests that 40 or more sets
of dies were prepared for that year's coinage. To date, 20 different obverse dies are identified and any further
work on this date is beyond the scope of the book. I will leave other Seated dime variety specialists with
the opportunity to identify other potentially interesting varieties for this date.
