Liberty Seated and Capped Bust Coinage Open Set Registry
Welcome to the Open Set Registry for certified and uncertified (raw) coins as a courtesy to Gerry Fortin Rare Coins customers.
Many Seated and smaller denomination Capped bust coinage collectors are building noteworthy sets in grades ranging from Fine through Mint State and may be excluded from displaying their sets on the PCGS or NGC registries due to exclusive certification requirements. Certification by either PCGS or NGC does provide for consistency in grading and allows for effective set competition, but the concept can be made more inclusive. After considerable feedback on the topic of a registry format for all collectors, a certified and uncertified Open Registry is offered to Gerry Fortin Rare Coins customers with the following goals;
1. Provide an inclusive registry for collectors to showcase both their certified and uncertified coins within the smaller denomination Capped Bust and all Seated coinage series
2. Increase awareness for smaller denomination Capped Bust and all Seated coinage in circulated grades and the important sets that can be built
3. Allow participants to compete against each other for top sets and advanced set rankings in a fun manner without annual awards or expensive luncheons.....having fun is the imperative here for Gerry Fortin Rare Coins customers who may wish to participate.
4. Please recognize that the Open Registry is a manual system and facilitated by Gerry Fortin on a best effort basis. Gerry Fortin Rare Coins customers will have first priority for updates.
The Guidelines....
1. For all uncertified coins, grades submitted by members must be based on industry standard grading guides like Photograde, or the ANA Grading GuideBook. Grading will be a "Scout's Honor" situation and the registry administrator (Gerry Fortin) reserves the right to question and reject submissions if it is believed that the submitted grades or claims are inconsistent with the spirit of this registry.
2. The administrator may ask for scans or digital images on a random basis to ensure the consistency of submitted grades.
3. Coins certified by PCGS, NGC, ANACS, and ICG should be identified accordingly during their submission. For coins in other grading service holders, simply submit the equivalent uncertified grade.
4. Coins approved by CAC should be indicated and will be marked with the CAC green or CAC gold beans.
5. Cleaned coins should be net graded as honestly as possible. Please submit a net grade for coins that are not deemed original and indicate the entry as cleaned or problematic.
6. Philadelphia proofs are not accepted as replacements for business strike entries. Several collectors submitted complete sets but utilized proof examples to fill in the Philadelphia Civil War years. I am sorry about this rule, but fairness to all submitters is important.
7. Initial set submissions should be via the input template and subsequent updates should be via email. The email updates are best handled by identifying the set and coin number followed by the upgrade or other significant change.
