Comments: Obverse 1 is easily recognized by a thin date with the 1 and 8 digits being especially weak. All digits are shallow in relief and are separated as compared to the remainder of 1849 obverse dies. I have had difficulty in locating an example of Variety 101, where Reverse A does not exhibit a die crack from UNITE(D) to the wreath and ONE. Without a suitable plate coin, I have included a scan of the plate coin from Kam Ahwash's encyclopedia.
