Comments: Obverse 4 has developed a die crack from Star 6, through Star 7, Liberty's head and into the rim. Another obverse die crack joins the bottom of the digits in the date. This first appearance of Reverse D is that of a die that is badly cracked on the left side. A die crack starts at the rim and proceeds up through (UN)ITED, through the wreath leaves and through S(T)ATES, finally exiting to the rim above ST(A)TES. A die crack starts at the rim and crosses through UNIT(E)D before joining the long vertical crack. I have yet to find an 1849 with an early die state example of Reverse D.
