Comments: 1849 Obverse 2 is paired with Reverse C, which is the left over Reverse B from 1848. During usage in 1849, the Reverse C die is approaching a terminal die state when paired with Obverse 2. Reverse C exhibits extensive die cracks and those cracks are mapped in the above image.

On Obverse 2, the triangular die scratch from Liberty's head to the rim remains faintly visible.

This late die state variety has been elusive in mint state grades with above plate coin graded MS63 by PCGS and approved by CAC and purchased during 2014.

Plate Coin: G. Fortin Collection, PCGS MS63 CAC (top above), VF25 (above)
