Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)                   Reverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: Strong die chips around Stars 12 and 13. Obverse 1 is now paired with Small O Reverse B. This reverse die is easily identified by its centered and high mintmark. A faint die crack from the rim to (S)TATES and a second set of die cracks from the rim to (A)MERI(C)A are visible.

Reverse B has been compared with the Small O reverse dies of 1841 to see if any of the 1841 reverses could have been held at the New Orleans mint until 1849. 1841 reverse dies H, J and K exhibit Small O mintmarks that are positioned high. However, a quick review of die cracks on these 1841 coins did not reveal a match with Reverse B of 1849.
